Decision Intelligence Under Uncertainty
Better decisions before greater commitment.
Cultural Intelligence Studio helps creative, cultural, community and purpose-led organisations decide what to develop, test, protect, change or stop before committing more money, people, trust or creative value.
The method does not manufacture certainty. It makes the available evidence, important assumptions, cultural context, competing interpretations and conditions for action visible—so responsibility remains human and the next step remains proportionate.
One connected method
Start with the decision—not the tool, the deliverable or the answer somebody hopes to receive.
The same disciplined method sits beneath the Simulation Lab, AI Readiness, Starter Reviews, Human Value research and 90-Day Intelligence Roadmaps. The depth changes with the engagement; the responsibility to distinguish evidence from belief does not.
The CIS decision method
From uncertainty to a direction that can be explained.
- 01
Clarify
Name the decision, the people affected and what is at stake.
- 02
Separate
Distinguish what is known, inferred, assumed and still unknown.
- 03
Prioritise
Identify the uncertainty most capable of changing the decision.
- 04
Interpret
Apply cultural, audience, community and commercial context.
- 05
Challenge
Use Red Team thinking, counterevidence and plausible failure conditions.
- 06
Test
Design the smallest credible, reversible action that can generate useful evidence.
- 07
Decide
Recommend Proceed, Revise, Pause or Stop—and make the reasoning visible.
- 08
Learn
Set actions, owners, review points and the evidence that could change the direction.
Begin with the decision in front of you
Different questions. One accountable way of thinking.
Should we develop this idea?
Test relevance, evidence, assumptions and plausible futures before larger commitment.
Explore the relevant route →02Are we ready to use AI?
Begin with the problem, workflow, people, information and accountable human decision gates.
Explore the relevant route →03Should this work be automated?
Examine human value, capability, trust and the work that should be automated, augmented, protected or developed.
Explore the relevant route →04Is this proposition ready for funding?
Strengthen evidence, beneficiaries, delivery logic, partnerships and the assumptions a funder will examine.
Explore the relevant route →05How could this affect people, culture or trust?
Make cultural interpretation, participation, power, access and unintended consequences visible.
Explore the relevant route →Human judgement remains responsible
AI may extend the investigation. It does not inherit the decision.
CIS may use AI to expand research, organise evidence, test alternative interpretations or explore scenarios. Every consequential finding is reviewed in context, and the client or authorised decision-maker retains responsibility for what happens next.
- No automatic authority to deploy a system
- No legal, employment, data-protection or cybersecurity certification
- No promise that every idea should proceed
- No invented evidence or hidden certainty score
- Clear referral to qualified specialists where required
What useful work should leave behind
A visible decision, a proportionate next step and a way to learn.
The result may be a Proceed, Revise, Pause or Stop recommendation; a focused test; three priority actions; or a 30- or 90-day roadmap. The form changes. The purpose remains the same: make the reasoning usable without pretending uncertainty has disappeared.
