C.I.S. Curated Intelligence · Video Collection Fourteen

Building an Enterprise That Matters: Purpose, Evidence and Sustainable Action

Ten selected talks for the C.I.S. learning path From Idea to Sustainable Enterprise.

Starting a business is often presented as a race from idea to growth. That version leaves out many of the decisions that determine whether an enterprise becomes useful, trusted and capable of lasting.

This collection approaches entrepreneurship as creative, cultural, social, financial, environmental and personal work. It moves from purpose and audience understanding through listening, pricing, experimentation and funding to trust, responsible AI, founder sustainability and a wider definition of success.

The featured talk by Ernesto Sirolli establishes the collection’s central discipline: begin by listening. An enterprise should not be built around what its founder assumes people need, but around a developing understanding of people, context and value.

Build with purpose. Learn through evidence.

Follow the sequence as a ten-stage journey, or use the filters to revisit a particular decision.

2 Questions to Uncover Your Passion—and Turn It Into a Career

Kirabo offers a grounded way to begin with personal interest and capability, then examine how they might become useful work for other people. Purpose becomes a starting point for investigation—not proof that an idea will succeed.

Key learning points

  • Name the work that holds your attention
  • Connect personal motivation with a problem worth addressing
  • Treat purpose as something to develop through action

Contextual note

A compelling personal passion is not, by itself, evidence of demand, viability or fair working conditions.

02 · Audience intelligence

The Human Insights Missing From Big Data

Wang shows why large datasets can reveal patterns while missing the human circumstances that explain them. Her idea of thick data supports a culturally intelligent approach to customers, participants and communities.

Key learning points

  • Pair quantitative evidence with lived context
  • Investigate outliers instead of automatically discarding them
  • Ask whose experience is absent from the dataset

Contextual note

Qualitative research also contains assumptions and selection effects. Strong decisions triangulate different forms of evidence.

03 · Listening & co-development · Featured video

Want to Help Someone? Shut Up and Listen!

Sirolli challenges interventions built around outsiders’ assumptions. His central lesson is that useful support begins with listening to the ambitions, knowledge and agency already present.

Key learning points

  • Begin with the person’s own ambition
  • Test assumptions through conversation
  • Support agency rather than imposing a solution

The talk uses memorable development stories to make a wider argument. Apply the principle with attention to local history, power and accountability.

04 · Value & pricing

Know Your Worth, and Then Ask for It

Brown connects pricing with the ability to communicate value clearly. The talk is especially useful for founders and creative practitioners whose expertise is frequently under-described or underpriced.

Key learning points

  • Make the value of the work visible
  • Price with a clear understanding of costs and outcomes
  • Practise communicating value without apology or exaggeration

Contextual note

Worth is not determined by confidence alone. Pricing must also consider evidence, affordability, market context, access and the full cost of responsible delivery.

05 · Experimentation

Rapid Prototyping Google Glass

Chi demonstrates how rough, fast prototypes can turn an abstract assumption into something people can experience and test. The enduring lesson is not the product itself, but the value of learning before building at full scale.

Key learning points

  • Prototype the riskiest assumption early
  • Use simple materials to make an idea testable
  • Let evidence change the design before investment grows

Contextual note

Google Glass is a dated technology example. The transferable value lies in the prototyping method; the exact displayed duration remains subject to a final technical check.

06 · Funding & access

The Funding Gap in Start-Up Investing

Giwa-Tubosun examines the unequal conditions surrounding investment in Black women-led ventures. Funding decisions do not occur in a neutral system; patterns of access influence which ideas are allowed to develop.

  • Separate venture quality from unequal access to capital
  • Build evidence while questioning biased funding systems

07 · Trust & participation

The Currency of the New Economy Is Trust

Botsman explores how digital marketplaces created new ways for strangers to transact. The examples have aged, but the strategic question remains important: what allows people to accept the uncertainty of a new offer or relationship?

Key learning points

  • Treat trust as infrastructure, not promotional language
  • Design credible signals and accountable behaviour
  • Understand how platforms redistribute risk and reputation

Contextual note

Several platform examples predate later regulatory, labour and safety debates. Trust claims should be tested against current governance and lived experience.

08 · Responsible AI

10 · Sustainable enterprise

Watch. Record. Decide.

After each video, record one idea it clarified, one assumption it challenged and one decision that should enter your Living Intelligence Record. The purpose is not to collect advice. It is to make the next decision more thoughtful, culturally aware and practical.

Selection, duplication and external ownership

Cultural Intelligence Studio selects external resources for educational value, relevance and source credibility. Inclusion does not mean endorsement of every claim. The Tricia Wang and Ernesto Sirolli talks also appear in other C.I.S. collections; their reuse here is intentional because each performs a distinct role in this learning sequence. No other exact matches were found in the live collection source reviewed on 3 September 2026.

The videos are created, owned and hosted by external publishers. C.I.S. does not control their continuing availability, accuracy, advertising, captions, privacy practices, recommendations or future changes. Privacy-enhanced YouTube embeds are used; autoplay and automatic sound are disabled. Caption and embed availability should be checked on the original platform.
