C.I.S. Curated Intelligence · Podcast Collection Fourteen

Beyond the Click

AI search, authority, trust and the new customer journey.

For much of the internet’s history, digital visibility was relatively easy to understand. Someone searched. A search engine displayed results. Someone clicked. A website received the visitor.

Artificial intelligence is complicating that journey. People can now ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and AI-enhanced search engines to investigate questions, explain subjects, compare alternatives and recommend organisations before they ever visit a website.

The consequences extend beyond SEO. They affect discovery, reputation, authority, content strategy, customer acquisition, analytics, trust—and who becomes visible when machines increasingly mediate human decisions.

This collection accompanies the C.I.S. article When the Answer Becomes the Marketplace and Video Collection Fifteen, From Search Results to AI Answers.

Listen beyond the click.

Ten conversations on AI discovery, visibility, citations, brand authority, attribution, entities and trust.

Why listen

Dan Petrovic draws on large-scale experiments to explain how AI systems discover, retrieve and select information. The conversation distinguishes mentions, citations, grounding, conventional rankings and AI visibility, while showing why AI discovery remains connected to search indexes and retrieval systems.

C.I.S. lens

The useful objective is not simply to ‘rank in ChatGPT’. It is to increase the probability that credible systems repeatedly recognise an organisation as relevant to particular questions. That requires evidence, authority and a coherent information environment around the organisation.

Why listen

This episode addresses what happens when people consume an organisation’s knowledge without visiting its website. Zero-click behaviour existed before generative AI, but AI answers accelerate it by allowing audiences to research a subject, product or organisation without leaving the platform.

C.I.S. lens

Traffic and influence are no longer synonymous. An organisation may shape a decision without receiving the first click. The more revealing question is whether its knowledge entered the decision journey—and whether that influence can eventually be recognised.

Why listen

This specialist series focuses on Generative Engine Optimisation, AI retrieval, citations, recommendations, visibility and measurement. Its emphasis on live testing and benchmarks helps separate emerging evidence from fashionable terminology.

C.I.S. lens

ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google’s AI search experiences do not operate identically. A resilient discovery strategy should examine where an organisation appears across the wider ecosystem, why it appears and which evidence produces that visibility.

Why listen

Found in AI examines how organisations remain discoverable when search produces answers rather than lists of websites. It connects conventional SEO with GEO, answer-engine optimisation, content strategy, entity authority and brand visibility.

C.I.S. lens

AI visibility is not only a technical optimisation problem. Machines need sufficient evidence to connect an organisation with its expertise, subjects, audiences, problems and credibility. That makes discoverability a knowledge-architecture challenge.

Why listen

This discussion considers the relationship between established search practice and the emerging work of making information legible to AI systems. It explores how Google, ChatGPT and other discovery environments overlap without assuming that one has simply replaced the other.

C.I.S. lens

Customers move between AI assistants, search engines, video, social proof and websites. Organisations need to understand that movement as an interconnected journey rather than assigning the whole decision to one channel.

Why listen

This episode examines what B2B brands must do to remain visible and credible when prospective customers ask AI systems for explanations and recommendations. It places reputation and authority alongside technical visibility.

C.I.S. lens

Brand visibility asks whether people and machines are talking about an organisation. Knowledge authority asks whether they use it as a source. The strongest long-term position combines recognisable presence with evidence worthy of citation.

Why listen

Kevin Indig and AirOps examine the organisations gaining or losing visibility as AI changes search. The discussion is especially useful for understanding why direct referral data can understate AI’s role and why conventional attribution struggles with journeys that begin inside an answer.

C.I.S. lens

If AI creates recognition and a later Google search receives the conversion credit, analytics records only the visible final step. Organisations should combine referral data with brand-search patterns and a direct question asking clients how discovery actually began.

This accessible conversation explains how search systems classify context and connect people, organisations, subjects and concepts. It provides a practical introduction to why modern discovery depends on meaning and relationships rather than isolated keyword matching.

C.I.S. lens

The strategic question is no longer only ‘Which keywords do we rank for?’ It is also ‘What ideas should the world—and therefore intelligent systems—associate with us?’ Consistent, credible relationships between an organisation and its areas of expertise help make that identity understandable.

Why listen

This episode makes the case that search is escaping the conventional search box. Discovery now moves through AI assistants, social platforms, communities, video, reviews and traditional search—often within the same customer journey.

C.I.S. lens

The objective is not to dominate every platform. It is to establish enough credible signals in the right environments that a person—or an intelligent system—can find, understand, verify, remember and trust the organisation.

This external podcast remains the property of its publisher, creators and rights holders. Cultural Intelligence Studio has selected and contextualised it for educational purposes.

Digital marketing was once organised primarily around acquiring attention. AI introduces an intermediary between the organisation and the potential customer—one that can research, summarise, compare, filter, interpret and recommend.

Organisations are therefore no longer communicating only with prospective customers. Their public information is also becoming part of the evidence from which intelligent systems construct answers.

A useful article can become evidence of expertise, a citation source, a machine-readable explanation, a trust signal and part of a customer’s decision environment.

If AI systems increasingly mediate discovery, they also increasingly mediate representation. Every generated answer creates a temporary map of authority: some organisations appear, while others disappear.

Some forms of knowledge are extensively documented. Others remain embedded in communities, lived experience, oral history or poorly indexed sources. AI visibility is therefore not purely a commercial question. It concerns who is represented, whose knowledge becomes searchable, which institutions are treated as authoritative and whose language defines a subject.

For cultural organisations, these questions deserve considerably more attention.

What should we be known for?

What evidence supports that authority? What happens when someone asks AI about us?

Together, the article, video collection and podcast collection explore one central proposition: the future competition may not simply be for the highest position in the search results. It may be for a credible place inside the answer.

Cultural Intelligence Studio curates research, ideas and perspectives at the intersection of culture, creativity, business and artificial intelligence. Our purpose is not simply to track technological change, but to understand what that change means for people, organisations, communities and the decisions they make.
